Luke Evans’ collaboration with Ffern has been an ongoing exploration of the relationship between nature, creativity, and scent. Over the course of Autumn 25, Winter 26, and Spring 26, Luke has woven together a visual and sensory narrative that reveals the story behind each fragrance ingredient. His work brings to life the delicate balance between science and nature, drawing inspiration from both the natural world and the artistry behind fragrance creation.

For Autumn 25, Luke’s vision was to capture both the science and the quiet beauty behind a fragrance created through fermentation.

Inspired by the challenge of bottling the fresh, juicy scent of orchard pears, a fruit too full of water for traditional essential oil extraction, Ffern’s perfumers turned to fermentation. Through patient experimentation and esterification, they created a molecule identical to the one found in real pears, which was then bottled naturally for the first time in Autumn 25.

Luke filmed the vision for Winter 26 at Lizard Point in Cornwall, capturing the striking contrasts of the coastline. The fragrance draws inspiration from coastal elements, with mimosa adding a honeyed, glowing warmth that contrasts with the fresh sea breeze. Ffern’s perfumers embraced the vastness and complexity of the sea, drawing from the windswept landscapes to create a fragrance as dynamic as the environment itself.

To bring this vision fully to life, Luke worked closely with set designer Annette Masterman. Together, they created work that mirrored the textures and colours of the coastline, allowing the fragrance to emerge from an environment that reflected its natural origins.

Luke worked with Ffern’s perfumers to capture the elusive aroma of elemi, a resin from the kenari tree in the Philippines. Known for its bright citrus and peppery spice, elemi proved difficult to extract using conventional methods. Ffern’s team turned to innovative techniques to distill this resin, unlocking a fragrance that had never been captured before. The result is a radiant, unique scent now preserved in a bottle.
