The first monograph from David Stewart celebrates his iconically deadpan and bizarre photography – a visual style that has developed, endured and progressed throughout the past 40+ years of industry change. Focusing on recreating observations of everyday life, David’s imagery presents a somewhat dialled-up version of the world around us, creating a recognisably familiar, yet uncanny world.
This visual identity has seen David Stewart create work for brands such as ABSOLUT, AMAZON, AMERICAN EXPRESS, CHANNEL 4, EE, ITV, LANDROVER, NATIONAL THEATRE, SHAKESPEARE’S GLOBE, AND SKY, affording Stewart with an invaluable first-hand experience of the advertising industry and its development throughout a rapidly changing digital world.
Whilst a celebration of his work, “Production Line” is also a document of learning and documentation. With insights from Stewart on the links between personal and commercial work, how the former influences the latter, and how the culture of the time can influence the artistic and commercial work being created, the monograph provides a very important answer to a very current situation: how to keep up with changing times.
